WinkU Privacy Policy
This policy explains how WinkU handles information for Self-shot remote photography, live previews, and Assisted shot screen sharing between two iPhones.
Scope
This policy applies to the WinkU iOS app, its screen-sharing extension, pairing, Self-shot remote photography, live previews, and Assisted shot screen sharing. Services opened through the App Store, iOS, or another third party are governed by that provider’s own privacy policy.
Information we process
WinkU does not require account registration and does not create a cloud user profile. During pairing, WinkU generates a temporary session identifier, device display name, pairing code, and connection status to discover devices, request approval, establish a connection, and display status.
Camera permission
The camera is used to scan pairing QR codes and to preview and take photos in Self-shot mode. Self-shot always uses the camera of the phone initially selected as the shooting device. Both the shooting and monitoring phones can trigger that camera or adjust supported settings. Live previews and control commands pass between the connected devices. WinkU does not upload QR-scanner images, camera previews, or captured photos to the developer’s servers. Scanning a QR code does not save a photo.
Adding photos, storage location, and system syncing
Self-shot requests only permission to add photos and does not read existing photos. Whichever phone triggers the shutter, photos are saved to the photo library of the initially selected shooting phone. The monitoring phone receives a live preview, not an automatic copy of the original photo file. Camera-generated photos may include metadata such as dimensions, capture time, and device information; the current feature does not request location permission to add location data. If iCloud Photos or other backup or sharing tools are enabled, those systems or services may sync photos. This is not an upload by WinkU to the developer’s servers.
Countdown speech and audio recording
The shooting phone uses system speech synthesis to speak countdown numbers, which you can turn off. The current Self-shot feature does not record your voice or require microphone or speech-recognition permission. The Assisted shot extension processes video samples only.
Local network and Bluetooth
WinkU uses Bonjour, Apple’s Network framework, and iOS-supported peer-to-peer networking to discover nearby devices and transmit video between two iPhones. Bluetooth may assist nearby discovery or connection stability; availability is controlled by iOS and the devices.
Screen sharing and ReplayKit
The broadcasting device uses Apple ReplayKit to obtain screen-sharing samples after the user actively starts sharing. iOS displays its own confirmation interface before sharing begins. WinkU sends the shared content only to the approved connected device and does not publicly broadcast it or upload it to the cloud.
Recipients and connection scope
Approve connections only to devices you trust and are authorized to use. The monitoring phone can view shared content and, in Self-shot mode, trigger photos and adjust focus, exposure, zoom, camera selection, and supported flash settings. Either phone can end the connection. Pairing codes and QR codes establish a session; do not publish them or give them to strangers. The recipient may still take screenshots, make screen recordings, or otherwise record content using system or other tools; WinkU cannot prevent this.
Local storage
Theme, language, countdown-speech preferences, trial usage, session state, connection diagnostics, and purchase-entitlement status may be stored on the device or in its App Group to provide features, restore the interface, end sharing, and recognize Lifetime Unlock. WinkU does not sync these records to its own servers.
Purchases, restoration, and redemption
Lifetime Unlock is a non-consumable in-app purchase provided through Apple StoreKit. WinkU receives only the product information and verified transaction status returned by Apple. WinkU does not receive your card number, payment password, or complete billing information. Apple handles purchases, restoration, refunds, and offer-code redemption.
Diagnostic information
If a connection or system error occurs, the app may store the connection stage, error category, device system state, and other technical diagnostics locally to restore the session and troubleshoot the issue. The current version does not automatically upload diagnostic logs to WinkU servers.
Third-party system services
WinkU uses Apple services including StoreKit, ReplayKit, AVFoundation, Photos, system speech synthesis, Network/Bonjour, and Settings. Apple may process information needed to operate those services under its own privacy policy. The current version does not integrate advertising, social-login, or third-party behavioral analytics SDKs.
Retention and deletion
Ending a session clears relevant temporary session state. Local language, preferences, trial, and purchase records may remain until system cleanup or app removal. Uninstalling normally removes local app data; App Group data also depends on system behavior and use by other apps or extensions in that group. Photos already saved to the system photo library are not deleted when a connection ends or WinkU is uninstalled. Manage or delete them in Photos, including Recently Deleted and your iCloud Photos settings. Apple manages Apple Account purchase records, which are not deleted by uninstalling WinkU.
Your rights and permission controls
Manage camera, add-only photo-library, and local-network permissions in the relevant WinkU or Privacy & Security pages in iOS Settings. You can also disable countdown speech or end a connection. Self-shot currently needs camera and add-only photo permission to capture and save photos; if denied, the app explains that capture or saving is unavailable, and you can reauthorize in Settings. WinkU has no cloud account database. Manage your photos in the system photo library, and contact us using the details below with questions about information handling.
Children
WinkU is not designed specifically for children. Minors should use WinkU only with a parent or guardian’s consent and guidance and should not share or record another person’s screen or personal information without permission.
International processing and legal requirements
WinkU currently does not operate its own cloud data-processing service. Apple system services may process necessary technical information in the regions where Apple operates, in accordance with applicable law and Apple’s privacy practices.
Updates to this policy
We may update this policy when laws, Apple system capabilities, or WinkU features change. Material changes will be communicated through app release notes, an in-app notice, or this page, and the date above will be updated.
